Loving Thunder Therapeutic Riding, Inc, established in 2008, is a non-profit 501 (C)3 providing therapeutic horsemanship and riding lessons to children & adults with special needs or disabilities and Veterans with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), and physical challenges. We are the only Premier Accredited Center for PATH, Intl (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) in New Mexico and take pride in our safety record and standards of care for our equines. Our riders are age four (4) and up with our oldest rider being 72 years young. The riders participate in all aspects of horsemanship by grooming, tacking up, riding, and caring for the horses. Riders experience improvement in core muscles, fine motor and gross motor skills. eye-hand coordination, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
The program offers 6 week sessions, year around, with a one hour rider lesson each week. Riders are encouraged to achieve all aspects of horsemanship but our volunteers are very close if help is needed.
We have a ramp and mechanical lift for riders who use wheelchairs. We also have other adaptive equipment when it is needed to achieve accomplishment of rider goals.
